The Y is hopping! Everything is full from classes to Child Development to the pool to the parking lot to the weight room to the...well you get the idea. It seems a lot of us renew our commitment to personal fitness with the New Year. From the perspective of a Wellness professional, the timing doesn't matter. What matters is that folks seeking better health are coming to us, and we need to be ready. If you're new to the Y, we're glad you're here, and if you're newly returned, welcome home. If you've been around a while, thanks for staying with us through the holidays. Let's work on getting rid of that extra five pounds.
With the influx of so many new and newly returned family, there will be a little less elbow room. Everyone, hang in there! Come May, we'll have 50 extra parking spaces, and 7000 more square feet of Wellness space, not to mention the tripling in size of the Women's Adult Locker Room. Four months. In the meanwhile, why don't you check out things you've never tried? If your favorite cardio machine is always full at 5:30PM, you should be in a Group Exercise class. Or in the Pool. Or join us in the Gym for some pick-up ball. Or stretch and head out with our Runner's Club at 6PM. Of course, you can always come during some of our slower times and get that favorite machine with no trouble!
This year sees the return of one of our YMCA legends in the person of Laura Cascaddan! Now kids, this Energizer Bunny is not the instructor for everyone. Most of the classes that Laura teaches will be to an intermediate or advanced level, so if you see her on schedule, check the number of stars next to the class name. If you're up to the challenge and have been cleared by your health care professional, Laura is guaranteed to leave you gasping for more. Right now you can catch Laura on Wednesdays, at 6AM in the Cycling Studio and 4:30PM in the Fitnasium.
While Laura rocks for all the hardcore exercise lovers, we have a huge lineup of talent ready to teach to all needs and levels. There is an instructor to appeal to all tastes with our lineup. Sometimes you have to try a few before you find the one best for you. Fortunately, every class we offer is included in every membership.
While you're considering all the wonderful options available to you that are included in your membership, don't forget to look into the Tri-Club Training offered three or more mornings every week. If you want to take your training to the next level, you won't find a better way than the multidisciplined approach demanded by our coach, Hector Torres.
Whatever your reasons for being here, thanks so much for being a part of our growing family. And thanks for visiting our Group Exercise Web Site! Leave your comments, and we'll try to post them all.

I love the Y and have been a member for maybe 15 years. I love the spinning, the weight room, the group exercise, especially Body Pump. I would urge you to fix the Tuesday 8:45 spinning problem, however, as your schedule still says the class is 45 minutes but the instructor cannot physically complete the 45 minutes and start a Yoga class next door on time. I suggest you either move the spin to start at 8:30 or move the Yoga to start 10 minutes later. This instructor is one of the best you've got (as evidenced by her FULL classes) so do what it takes to make this right for her and the members. Thanks!
